Carnival from Galveston

Carnival from Galveston

If you buy something on Amazon through a link here, TXCruises.com may get a cut. I'm not going to recommend a thing just to make that happen.

Carnival out of Galveston is the cruise I actually tell people to take, and it's not because I think it's fancy. I-45 from Houston is a grind and I still pick it over buying four plane tickets to Florida.

If this is the first one, get on Breeze. Four nights if you just want to know whether you like sleeping on a ship. Five if you want a second port. Jubilee is the week, the one with the Texas Star painted on the bow, and that's the sailing people mean when they say Western Caribbean.

Late August 2026 there are three Carnival ships living here.

Breeze leaves at 3:30 p.m. and gets back at 8 a.m. The four-night is a sea day, then Cozumel from 9 to 5, then a sea day home. That's it. One island. The five-night adds Progreso, which is a long pier and a bus if you're going to Mérida or the ruins, not a beach chair next to the ship. Carnival's own Breeze search also lists seven-night weeks on that ship (Roatan and Belize, Jamaica and Grand Cayman, or Key West / Celebration Key / Nassau). Same hull, different trip. Read the itinerary.

I checked that Breeze search on August 26, 2026. Average per person in a two-person room was $364 for the five-night, $372 for the four, $606 for a seven. That's what the page said that morning. It will have moved by the time you look.

Jubilee's official week is Cozumel, Costa Maya, then Isla Tropicale. Isla Tropicale is the old Mahogany Bay dock on Roatan. Carnival flipped the name in May 2026. She also leaves at 3:30.

Dream came back April 5 after a dry dock in Marseille. One official six-night page I opened went Costa Maya, Belize, Cozumel. She also runs eight-night Bahamas weeks (Key West, Celebration Key, Half Moon Cay, Nassau). Ports swap. Confirm yours.

Miracle isn't here. Carnival's 2026/27 outlook has her leaving Seattle September 26, then doing Galveston four-nights to Cozumel, five-nights that add Progreso, and some ten-day trips. I have not seen her first Saturday on carnival.com, so I'm not picking a date for you. Legend is gone from this homeport list. The port still talks like Carnival is the house line, with a four-ship plan. Horizon and Spirit are 2027 news.

Search the real inventory: Carnival cruises from Galveston. Royal, Disney, Norwegian, MSC are on Cruises from Galveston.

The buildings

Two terminals on Harborside. 25 is 2502. 28 is 2702. The port's schedule page parks Carnival at 25 and lists 28 for Disney, Princess, and Carnival too. Two ships on a Saturday and they split. Your boarding docs are the only map that matters, because the lots don't transfer.

I have sat in that line while the gate was still shut. Official lots open at 9 on most sailing days. If you're coming from Houston and I-45 isn't a parking lot, you can same-day it. Austin, San Antonio, Dallas: sleep on the island and roll over after 9. I already wrote the hotel-and-parking version here: Sleep in Galveston the Night Before. Names of hotels: Hotels near Galveston cruise port. If the car stays the whole cruise, you need the hotel's cruise package. Overnight parking is not seven days of parking.

What you already paid for

Room, main dining room, Lido, Guy's, BlueIguana, pizza, soft serve. Water, lemonade, iced tea, drip coffee. Pools, slides, gym, shows. Camp Ocean for kids 2 to 11. Night Owls costs extra if you want someone to watch them late.

Not in the fare: alcohol, wifi, chat on the HUB app, excursions, specialty restaurants, most room service (continental breakfast is the exception), spa, photos, laundry, and the automatic tips. CHEERS! is the drink package. Bottomless Bubbles is soda. Wifi is its own thing. You can still open the HUB app for the daily schedule without paying for chat.

Tips hit your Sail & Sign card. After Carnival's April 2, 2026 notice, the trade coverage I read put it at $17 a person per day in a regular cabin and $19 in a suite. Use whatever number is on your booking.

I add those extras before I decide the cruise is "cheaper than a resort week."

Cozumel, and what I don't do there

Almost every Galveston Carnival week hits Cozumel. The four-night hits only Cozumel. 9 to 5 on Breeze, which is plenty if you get off the ship instead of eating another slice of pizza.

I do a beach or a snorkel and I am back before they start hunting for you. I do not try Tulum from a four-night out of Texas.

If you book through the ship, they wait. If you book a guy on the pier, they will leave without you.

Progreso is inland. Costa Maya is a fake little village they built at the dock. Isla Tropicale is Roatan. Belize shows up on some Dream and Breeze weeks. Celebration Key is the Bahamas stop on the longer ones, not on the four-night.

The cabin is a steel box

There is nowhere to hang a wet swimsuit. Magnets work on the walls and the cabin door. Carnival's brand ambassador has said that's fine, and that you do not hang anything from the ceiling.

LOVIMAG Magnetic Hooks, 12-pack for lanyards, hats, the swimsuit. I looked at that listing August 26, 2026.

The bathroom has no counter, which is how sunscreen ends up on the bed. Cruise On 15-pocket over-the-door organizer hangs on the cabin door. Same day, same check. Packing cubes and a battery pack are on the hotel-night page.

Four or five nights on Breeze if you haven't done this. Jubilee week if you already know you like being on the boat, and then actually read the ports, because Cozumel-only is not Cozumel plus Costa Maya plus Isla Tropicale.
